I am honored to begin a new role at Skyview as a School Garden Educator! I carry with me approximately 25 years of teaching experience, including classroom teaching, environmental and outdoor education, private tutoring, and summer program planning/implementation. I have been working at Skyview for eleven years; Previously, I served as a full time classroom teacher working with 3rd through 5th grade students. This is my first year to work alongside classroom teachers and students, throughout the grade levels, to teach garden-based science, math, and social studies lessons. I help plan and implement activities in the garden as a meaningful and engaging way to introduce and reinforce required standards-aligned curriculum.
Prior to becoming a teacher, I attended Mills College in Oakland, California where I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. I also have a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University, an Arizona teaching certificate, a reading specialist endorsement, and an early childhood education endorsement. During my career, I have helped develop water conservation/environmental education programs at various museums and schools. My husband, Cisco, and I are long-time residents of Prescott. We have two children, Noble (Skyview 8th grader) and Sedona (a proud Skyview alum). We are honored to be a part of the Skyview Community, and enjoy growing and maintaining the garden spaces around campus together. I am passionate about teaching, learning, and sharing my wonderment of the world with children. I strive to make all students feel safe, valued, supported, and appropriately challenged. I work alongside my students to help them become confident, life-long learners with the foundational skills and experiences that will allow them to lead healthy, meaningful lives. Furthermore, I see the garden as a perfect place for students to develop an understanding of numerous systems, cultivate respect for each other and the natural world, and practice patience, responsibility, and stewardship. I am tremendously grateful for the opportunity to be a school garden teacher at Skyview this year! |
