Our school is committed to establishing a learning environment where Visual Arts, Spanish, and Physical Education (PE) are not elective supplements, but essential, integrated learning domains that reinforce core academic standards across K-8. This integration will serve as a powerful vehicle for applying Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences, promoting intrinsic motivation, and enabling students to demonstrate knowledge through diverse modalities.
Spanish as a Cultural and Linguistic Bridge: The Spanish language program will be utilized to connect students directly with global themes, literature, and culture, often in collaboration with the Arts and PE. ○ Application: Students will study the art and architecture of Spanish-speaking regions, learning relevant vocabulary in the Visual Arts classroom (e.g., cubismo, mural, colores primarios). They will then use Spanish to present information about cultural themes or projects (Linguistic Intelligence), making the language purposeful and immediately relevant. ○ Outcome: Spanish accelerates vocabulary acquisition, introduces cultural content that aligns with social studies, and provides an authentic audience for student work.
