Our History
Founded in 1996 in Prescott, Arizona,  Skyview was one of the first charter schools in the state.  The school was begun by a group of parents seeking a learning environment exemplified by an active, relevant, and inspiring pedagogy.
A School of Choice
As a public charter school, Skyview School welcomes all families and nurtures a sense of community.  Students at Skyview experience hands-on learning, enabling them to engage in what they are studying by connecting academics to the real world.  Active pedagogy encourages students’ participation as problem-solvers and preparing their involvement in the local community.  These methodologies are highly successful with our students, as evidenced by many years of recognition as an Excelling School by the Arizona Department of Education.  Equally as important as academics is the enrichment of students’ social and emotional development nurtured through an emphasis on respect and responsibility.  Our gifted model of education requires students to set goals for themselves and, with guidance and support, become self-directed learners and accountable members of our community.

As a school of choice, families select Skyview because they connect to the mission of the school.  Skyview attracts students who love to learn and families who value learning.  Our rigorous curriculum requires students to commit a substantial amount of time to their studies. Regular problem-solving opportunities, investigations, and high-order thinking activities require a significant level of responsibility and necessitates that students come to school each day prepared for learning.
After two years of research and discussion, an educational program was developed, based on the traditional values of respect and responsibility and characterized by cognitive research-supported pedagogy. (Pedagogy refers to the strategies, techniques, and approaches that teachers use to facilitate learning.)

Using the mulitiple intelligences to inform the curriculum and further students' understanding, the founders blended inquiry, project-based learning, state standards, gifted education, and authentic assessment into a unique framework.
